Our commitments
At MARTAUD, we have chosen to focus on the essentials: unisex outerwear that is practical, comfortable, and made in Europe, designed to last (and to be passed on). We create trench coats, coats, and jackets, complemented by a few accessories to complete your looks. Our goal: do less, but do it better.

Creation
Our collections do not follow the fast-paced rhythm of fast fashion. At MARTAUD, we prefer to take our time. We release one type of outerwear at a time, often available in several colors, along with a few accessories made (for the most part) from the linings of the garments. We prioritize a pre-order production model.

Fabrics
Our choice of materials goes hand in hand with our values. Our fabrics are European, sourced from France or Italy. For each item, you will find detailed traceability of the materials used on its product page.
We prioritize natural and/or certified materials. To date, fabrics containing synthetic fibers come from dead stock. Fabrics not from dead stock are made exclusively of natural fibers.
For example, the gabardine of our Billy trench coat is 100% organic cotton (GOTS certified and water-repellent treated without PFC (Perfluorocarbons)). Its lining is made of 58% cotton and 42% polyester. This fabric is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified and, most importantly, comes from dead stock.

But what are dead stocks?
These are fabrics that have already been produced but not used, often end-of-run materials or production errors. Rather than letting them sit unused, some suppliers allow brands to purchase them, thereby preventing waste and overproduction. This approach helps both to reduce overproduction and to limit our carbon footprint from new production.
As fabrics stock are limited, our pre-order quantities are aslo limited. This makes each piece a little more unique! -
And what do the GOTS and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 labels guarantee?
The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) label guarantees that the textile comes from organic farming, with strict criteria regarding the use of chemicals (to protect the environment and health), water management, and respect for labor conditions and human rights in production. It covers the entire production chain, from fiber cultivation to the final product, and ensures a reduced environmental impact.
The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label certifies that the fabric has been tested for the absence of harmful substances (toxic chemicals, heavy metals, etc.). It thus guarantees that the textile is safe and poses no risk to human health, regardless of its use (clothing, household linens, etc.). However, unlike GOTS, it does not take into account the organic origin of the raw materials.

The details that matters
We collaborate exclusively with French or European suppliers for our fabrics, as well as for our buttons, labels, and packaging.
Prototyping and production
Our clothing is manufactured in Poland, while our accessories are produced in France. The design and development of our models take place in France, where our partner creates the patterns and prototypes. For production, the fabrics are cut in France and then sent to Poland, where a partner factory handles the rest of the manufacturing.
We had initially considered producing entirely in France. However, due to our small quantities and labor costs, manufacturing in France would not have allowed us, for example, to sell our Billy trench coat for less than €400. To be profitable, we would have had to price it above €550, which exceeded the price we wanted to maintain.
Choosing Poland was therefore the alternative we opted for. Production costs are lower there, but more importantly, it is a country renowned for its expertise in making coats, jackets, and trench coats… which works perfectly, since that is our specialty.
Pricing
At MARTAUD, we strive to maintain fair prices. This means offering high-quality products while ensuring fair compensation for our partners and keeping our business model sustainable. It is a delicate balance, but an essential one for us.
Delivery
For now, we only deliver within mainland France, but we hope to expand to Europe soon. We occasionally organize pop-up stores in Paris. If you’re passing through, we would be delighted to welcome you and show you our collections.
